REPORT
A very valuable point garnered away thanks to a gritty defense! On a frigid day and in front of a meagre crows, Shimizu S-Pulse showed they can rely on a solid defense, even in their second team,
They almost had as many shots on target, corner kicks and free kicks, but they could manage only a single real chance in the 22nd minute when Yuito Suzuki missed his target after having been found by a good cross from Nisihizawa. The rest of the day was spent keeping an aggressive Hiroshima at bay and limit their chances at goal.
Only twice new signing goalkeeper Nagai had to produce great saves in the 58th and 59th minute, proving that even the level at goalkeeping had been raised with great signings this year.
Head Coach Miguel Angel Lotina was satisfied about the general play of the day, especially the defense, although some progress will be needed upfront.
All in all, still a good performance for a club which had proceeded with massive moves both on and off the field. The notion of a good defense to allow more freedom to the attack seems to have caught with all players, be they in the first or second team, which will prove pricelss in a long season!
On Saturday S-Pulse will hold their first game at home against Avispa Fukuoka in front of their faithful fans who can hope for success and fun!
