REPORT

Disappointment is too weak a word for this particular game. A letdown would be a more appropriate word in all honesty.

Truth to tell, Nagoya Granpus has developed into a mean and deadly machine, who cares little about beauty and more about clinical kill of the opposition. Their goals are not pretty but they are terribly efficient with the few opportunities they are given.

On the other hand, Shimizu S-Pulse simply looked naïve, clumsy in their finishing despite some fine build-ups.

We played well enough during the first quarter, missing a couple of occasions after an early Granpus’ domination. But after the first of Granpus’ opportunistic goals, it became a game of professionals against a merry band of “youngsters”. It was not bad soccer, but so terribly predictable.

At times, fans (the largest crowd of the season!) were really discouraged by the lack of fight and general apathy. This is truly harsh comment indeed, but sometimes you have to face the truth squarely. We were simply not up to par.

Probably the best thing in such a case is to turn the page, have a honest and hard look at ourselves and show the fight the fans deserve!

The next game could prove the most important game to save the season, because as the J1 League is concerned it has become a fight to first avoid relegation and then to get some respect.

On Wednesday we travel to Yokohama to play a game which will become the decider for qualification for the Levain Cup, a thing we have not done for so long.

We lose the game and Hiroshima win there we are out.

We draw the game and we are in.

We win the game and we finish at the top of our group.

Clear enough, is it not?

Time to regain the fans’ trust!
