REPORT
Gritty win!

S-Pulse had to confirm their rising form and they did it. But it was not all easy. Manager Jőnnson was right when during the post-game press interview when saying that S-Pulse played well for the first 30 minutes in the first half and the first 5 minutes in the second and that it was down to hard work and grit if not perfect to keep Sanfrecce at bay. It was especially sweet for him to beat his former club and the players unequivocally shared his delight after the game.

S-Pulse only had four shots at goal but they were all on target and two of them found the goal.

In the 19th minute Ishige instead of floating a corner kick inside the box shot low for Kitagawa running around the defense to score a sharp shot that bewildered the Sanfrecce defense. It was revealed that the team had rehearsed the ploy the day before at a training behind closed doors.

In the 37th minute Crislan, deputizing for injured Douglas had to leave the field with a horrific knee injury that will keep him away from the pitches for up to 8 minutes. We wish him a sound recovery! His replacement, Chong Tese found the net after a quick counter found Kitagawa who managed to put his team mate through. And after that it was defense, defense and defense again, except in one case when Kaneko should have found the net in another quick counter.

Ball possession does not mean much with all those back passes, and that apply to both teams. S-Pulse failed many times to keep and carry the ball forward after their defense had extracted balls out of Sanfrecce’s constant attacks. S-Pulse’s strong points are a solid defense and a superb Rokutan who keeps saving his team with split second saves and quick deadly counters. The midfield will definitely have to work on better passing and forward carrying.

The next game away against Shonan Bellmare might prove tricky. Once again S-Pulse will to dig deep into their ability and stamina, but they should do it!
