REPORT

Did we get out of jail, or did we for once showed a different set of mind in achieving this gritty draw against all odds?

Things were not looking rosy before the game with an infirmary full and suddenly no less than 7 players out because of Covid.

The silver lining to the dark cloud is that new recruits had to be used earlier than planned, but the same contributed much to the game and barring more injuries, this could be the team next game.

And the game started in the worst possible fashion for a quickly assembled team which could not find its marks.

In the 4th minute Pikachu had a good chance at goal but his cross shot from the left missed the goal and in the very next 30 seconds Tosu ran past our right flank to allow too an easy goal.

Shimizu tried to fight back but in the 27th minute another shot went past across the opposite goal on a day when S-Pulse ad only 5 shots on target out o 17 attempts.

And in the 29th minute S-Pulse gifted a silly goal with a ball given away just outside the box for an easy goal offered on a plate to the opposition.

That is when the writing seemed to be on the wall… especially when in 43rd minute neither Kamiya nor Santana wasted a golden chance after a good cross from the left.

Shimizu went all out in attack in the second half and in the 62nd minute Yamahara intercepted a pass inside his hale before running past Tosu’s right flank and sending a low cross that Shirasaki somehow managed to deviate into the opposite goal.

In the 63rd minute Inui, Kitagawa and Carlinhos came in and could have scored immediately when Kitagawa sent Carlinhos through only for the latter to just miss the goal.

In the 67th minute once again Shimizu barely missed the goal with Shirasaki’s medium range low kick.

And then we were treated to 4 mutes of craziness from the 79th minute when Shimizu’s bad pass was intercepted and just looked at a Tosu attacker taking all his time to score from a long-range shot.

But one minute later the game started favoring S-Pulse when Carlinhos sent Santana through who should have obtained a penalty kick with opposite goalkeeper sent off but ironically enough Kitagawa’s striking instincts had him follow the action until the end to push the ball in saving the opposite goalkeeper of a deserved red card.

And in the 83rd minute Santana sent the perfect pass to Yamahara who crossed backed to the very same Santana to score fine goal leaving the opposition wondering what was suddenly happening to them.

And in 90th minute Kitagawa should have scored the winning goal if he had immediately kicked the ball instead of controlling it!

Now, we will have to show the same spirit and better defense as if every game was a cup final starting with an away game next Sunday In Tokyo!
