A precious win!
And the more for it that these valuable three points were grabbed away!
The importance of this game between two teams struggling in the bottom half of the League meant that S-Pulse adopted a defensive 4-4-2 formation to contain Kofu who had an absolute need for a win.
S-Pulse did well to soak up the continuous pressure during the first half and even had a clear chance at the 28th minute when Shirasaki’s center kick found the head of Mitchell Duke which unfortunately flew off target.On the other hand Kofu did not help themselves with chronic poor finishing.
The second half saw a repetition of the first but this time S-Pulse found the net thanks to a back heel from Mitchell Duke taking advantage of Kofu’s defense which found substitute in the perfect place to score between two defenders at the 70th minute.S-Pulse did well to defend their narrow lead even at the expense of three yellow cards, which might influence the composition of next Saturday’s game against the vaunted Kawasaki Frontale club presently second of the table.
S-Pulse are now 8 points clear from the relegation zone and should approach that game with a lighter heart and hopefully provide much entertainment to their faithful fans, especially with the imminent return of their injured strikers!
