REPORT
The vagaries of Japanese soccer calendar!
Only 4 days ago Shimizu S-Pulse faced Kawasaki Frontale at home for the 26th match day of the J1 League and had to visit the same club in its den in Kawasaki for the 4th round of the 97th Emperor’s Cup, the second highest competition in Japan!
The result was the same, a 3-goal gap win for Kawasaki Frontale, but the conditions were slightly different.
There was no less than 7 changes for the starting composition of the team as some players obviously had to be rested while other players were given a rare chance to prove themselves. To little avail, unfortunately, as S-Pulse fell again into the same errors in defense in spite of a better attacking performance.
Kawasaki had to wait only 8 minutes before pouncing on a badly defended corner kick.
Mitchell Duke did well to equalize in the 23rd minute by chasing Kaneko’s shot rebound, but Frontale took the lead again in the 41st minute when a pass form the S-Pulse was cut off for a gift goal.
The second half followed the same pattern after 4 minutes when the defense lost a ball again to concede another goal on a plate. The 4th goal on a free kick in the 85th minute was anecdotic and served only to prove that S-Pulse will have to work hard on their defense.
To tell the truth S-Pulse have more pressing matters than an Emperor’s Cup they still managed to play into the fourth round, a very positive performance in itself!
Now, it is our turn to support our dear club next Saturday against SANFRECCE HIROSHIMA!
