REPORT

A precious point stolen away from home!

Another game between two clubs threatened with relegation, but with the difference that Omiya’s position is more desperate trailing 5 to 7 points behind a pack of 4 teams locked between the 13th and 16th position. Therefore Omiya were expected to take the game by the scruff of the neck, but they more or less shared the game with a cautious S-Pulse with no real clear chance for a goal. On the other hand S-Pulse lacked discipline and Tiago got his usual yellow card by the followed straight followed by an even sillier card against Hasegawa who was not even on the playing field! Only Duke looked dangerous while Tese was busier arguing with the umpire and diving all over the place.

At half time Head Coach Kobayashi was heard live on TV saying that the first 10 minutes in the second half would be hard and that if they could get away unharmed they should at least hope for a point.

The exact opposite happened with S-Pulse clearly dominating these fated 10 first minutes earning corner kick after corner kick which were all poorly executed. A free kick at the 58th minute was the last S-Pulse’s chance at goal. After it became mounting pressure from all out attacks from Omiya. Tese redeemed himself by clearing a ball off his goal line at the 53rd minute and the 67th minute a S-Pulse defender back somehow managed to deflect a killer shot onto the bar.

3 games prior to this one S-Pulse had a 7-point cushion. Before this game they still had a 4-point cushion. Now, with 6 games left they still have a 2-point advantage over the relegation red line.

One week rest will be really welcome before the derby at home against Jubilo Iwata, a game impossible to predict in spite of the large gap between the two clubs. A defining moment in S-Pulse history!

The fans will play a very important role then!
