REPORT

It is indeed a long road for the Shimizu S-Pulse…

And even a longer and harsher one for the club members…

In spite of a two-week break the players looked exhausted. What with injuries, missing players purging their cards and going with the same makeshift team, it was never going to be easy to play against a team that had nothing to win or lose. The rain was no excuse as Consadole had to hold their practices in the snow in the sub-zero temperatures the previous day. But the rain certainly held much needed fans when a sub-par attendance were drown by the cheers of a small but compact and very loud Consadole fan contingent.

The first 15 minutes decided the game when a flat-footed and juiceless S-Pulse were completely dominated with their opponents repeatedly stretched their flanks. At the 11th minute Consadole was offered an unchallenged heading that trickled past the line, and after that it was chasing after another problematic victory. S-Pulse nonetheless did well to go on the attack for the next quarter of an hour, even having a goal disallowed, but what was bound to happen happened. The defense was once again stretched on its right flank and the defense could only look at another soft goal being conceded.

The second half saw a more balanced game with S-Pulse courageously but ineffectively going on the attack, earning corner kick after corner kick but all shots either went wide or directly to the goalkeeper.

In the end S-Pulse had a winless stretch spanning over the last six games and five consecutive games without a goal scored by their attack.

Next Sunday is a live or die game, and fans should be the first to understand and come in force to help S-Pulse beat the bottom club, Niigata.A club is not only a team, it is also fans giving their best to support their players!
