REPORT

The jinx has finally been broken!

After 5 consecutive defeats Consadole Sapporo will no longer lay heavy in the minds of the S-Pulse players after coming back after another adverse beginning.

They should have scored in the first minutes but Crislan’s point blank heading just flew over the bar. Then in the 15th minute their nemesis of past years in the name (nickname) of Jay found once again S-Pulse nets with a splendid heading after Consadole had broken Shimizu’s left wing with a sharp counter. But this time S-Pulse’s reply came quickly in the 26th minute with Kaneko passing to Crislan who somehow stood on his feet to beat three defenders with a gutsy goal. From then on it was a tupsy turvy game until the dying minutes of the first half which could have gone any away, especially in Consadole’s favor. But as Team Manager Jőnsson commented after the game, S-Pulse defense has already taken the sting out of their opponents’ attacks.

Consequently S-Pulse took complete control of the second half with a committed defense led by a towering Hwang and helped by all when needed as demonstrated by Duke, deputing for injured Ishige, who covered the most ground of all players in the field. The second goal was started by the same Duke who found Matsubara who overlapped Consadole’s right wing before sending the perfect low cross to be slotted sweetly home by Kaneko. The third goal also started with Duke crossing into the box before Crislan became provider for Kawai who half volleyed a splendid curving shot inside Consadole’s right post, a goal that will probably stay in the annals of the 2018 season.

A thoroughly deserved and well-planned win for a team that nonetheless will keep a down to earth approach with a challenger’s heart as Kaneko justly reflected in the post-match interview!

Next game sees a Levain Cup Group Stage 2nd match in neighboring Yamanashi Prefecture against Ventforet Kofu, a kind of derby match between two Prefectures! The Levain Cup is to be taken seriously this year with so many players knocking at the door of the club premier team. It certainly promises some great action!
