REPORT

The end of a winning series and a match to quickly forget!

Truth to tell Ventforet Kofu, like any other J2 League club invited to fill in for places vacated by J1 league clubs involved with the Asian Cup are more serious about the Levain Cup than the J1 league clubs who take the opportunity to field their second-fiddle team.

But Team Manager certainly did not accept the excuse with a terse and severe comment: “We just forgot our commitment on the way!” He did have reasons to be miffed at his players who repeatedly went astray with their passes and general strategy, that is, if they remembered the latter. Managing only 4 shots at goal they could and should have gone back home with at least a draw. Instead they conceded a totally avoidable goal by trying to go nowhere and leaving themselves hopelessly open to counter.

There are only 4 games left in the Levain Cup Group Stage and if S-Pulse do not proceed further some players will rue the loss of the opportunity to show and prove what they can do. It is to be hoped that they will redeem themselves in the next Levain Cup against Consadole Sapporo, which has already lost hope after two consecutive defeats.

But for the moment we will have to concentrate onto the next J1 League game at home against a very strong Vegalta Sendai!
