REPORT
Reaching maturity?

Definitely! And you certainly needed a lot of it for such a match opposing a team aiming at the highest position possible against another threatened with relegation.

During the first half you would have been forgiven to think that the roles had been reversed. Nagoya were throwing everything into their attacks and S-Pulse was resisting with teeth and nails. But Nagoya’s attempts, for all their menace, were all wasted wide off the goal while S-Pulse almost converted two lone chances. On the hand Shimizu’s midfield were wasting a lot of balls forgetting the triangular principle and losing themselves in incessant one-two’s.

The second half witnessed a totally different strategy and a far more exciting spectacle on the whole. U-21 National Squad Member Tatsuta made the difference with two interventions in the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 59th minute his harp low cross found National Squad member Kitagawa’s head that gave no chance to the opposing goal keeper. In the 65th minute another cross, this time a floating loop, that Douglas brilliantly headed home. It is the first time in 8 years that two S-Pulse strikers score more than 10 goals each, albeit Douglas’ performance was achieved in only half a season. Next year this will definitely become the most feared striking pair in Japan.

Now, if S-Pulse can add a fast moving midfielder they will have the complete team to field and will prove the team to beat next year.

For all the recent clean sheets, S-Pulse has the third best attack and only an average defense, which shows the great progress already achieved this year

Expect an enormous crowd for the last match home of the season in two weeks times!

I would also like to point out the team spirit shown by the players who put on a shirt encouraging Crislan back to form after his terrible injury! Let us all wish him a sound recovery!
