REPORT
An exercise in frustration?
Played on a miserable evening of cold and rain Gamba Osaka came up with a stronger and taller team than expected signifying they took the Levain Cup more seriously than surmised. S-Pulse, while attaching as much importance to the Cup fielded a significantly second string team with more comparatively smaller players.

The difference in size and experience was made very significant when S-Pulse conceded a soft goal in the 5th minute following a corner seeing the whole defense caught flat-footed.

The men in orange nevertheless went on an all-out offensive and were almost immediately rewarded with a penalty kick given for once of the most evident handling inside the box. Kitagawa calmly converted the spot kick and S-Pulse went on attacking a one-man down Gamba.

It became a one-sided game when it came to possession and attempts at goal but the experienced Gamba defense held the younger and smaller S-Pulse players who were reduced to shoot from long range most of the evening and were further frustrated by the opposite goal keeper who became the Player of the Match with some desperate saves.

The positives are that S-Pulse kept attacking until the very last minute and for all their frustration never gave up. Let’s hope better things are to come during the Derby against Jubilo Iwata next Sunday! The fans deserve it!
