REPORT
Never say die!
But how tough it was for all S-Pulse supporters’ hearts! It unfolded into a drama only found in football mangas!

The first half was ill-tempered and saw 5 yellow cards dished out, one of them going to prove so vital at the end of the game! Each team had only one true chance. S-Pulse missed theirs when Douglas’ fine heading following Elsinho’s precise cross went straight into the goal keeper’s hands in the 17th minute. On the other hand Marinos cleverly beat the S-Pulse’s central defense in the 31st minute with some precise passing and a shot that gave Nishibe no chance to save.

At half time Nakamura’s injury forced Head Coach Shinoda to switch from a 4-2-3-1 formation to a 4-1-4-1 strategy better suited to counter Marinos’ packed 4-3-3 tactics. But the equalization came from a fine corner kick by Kaneko which found Douglas at the far post heading towards Matsubara who headed in a simple goal.

S-Pulse continued attacking but to no avail in spite of two great chances missed until the 80th minute when Marcos Junior broke the deadlock by sending a great through pass through which beat everybody to give the advantage back to Marinos.

But few people noticed that the same player was booked a second time for one too many comments and had to leave his side disorganized. With two minutes left S-Pulse cashed in on the numerical advantage. Renato first averted certain disaster by somehow extricating out a very dangerous pass by his goal keeper before sending Kitagawa along the right side and past an outnumbered opposite defense. His perfect cross found Douglas who calmly converted his fourth goal of the season.

And then the drama unfolded for one last time when Elsinho cut a poor midfield pass before sending a superb pass to Nishizawa unmarked on the left flank who atoned for is previously missed chances by coolly slotting the ball in past a rushing goal keeper! S-Pulse were left with the task to see off the 4 minutes of additional time which was done without much trouble to the screaming S-Pulse’s supporters. The celebrations certainly lasted a long time!

Now it is back to work with two successive away games, the first of them taking place in Nagoya next Saturday! The supporters will be there in droves to support their gritty team!
