REPORT
Phew! That was close!
It shouldn’t have been if S-Pulse had been a bit more efficient in the first half when they had created two real chances one on one only to be denied by the opposite goal keeper. Then in the 64th minute Jubilo somehow managed to score after a horrible series of half clearances by the S-Pulse defense.

S-Pulse did not give up in spite of a hard packed defense by Jubilo who adopted a more and more aggressive strategy. 4 minutes in extra time when the writing seemed to be on the wall, 18-years old Kawamoto retrieved the ball for Dutra who dribbled around the Jubilo defense before shooting at goal. The rebound was chased by Douglas who somehow forced two defenders to concede an own goal! For one Lady Luck was really helping Shimizu!

The extra time did not bring about a result by the two exhausted teams.

It was down to penalty shootout! Renato missed the first kick the ball flying over the bar and S-Pulse were led 1-0, but Nishibe pulled out two great successive saves while Douglas, Dutra, Nishizawa safely slotted in their kicks and it was up with Seok Ho to finish the job with the last kick. He calmly slotted it in and S-Pulse were finally through to the best (, a feat they had not achieved for 5 years!

S-Pulse had fielded almost their best team, keen as they were to beat their derby rivals who also had fielded a strong team. It allowed Junior Dutra to demonstrate he would soon be a feature of the team and provided more opportunity to young Kawamoto to also knock at the door of the starting team in future games. Actually he is only one of a wave of new young players bred by the club which could take over very soon!

The next game will see another trip to Shonan Bellmare, a game that could prove pivotal for the rest of the season! The fans know that too well and will travel in droves to support S-Pulse!
