So close, and yet so far! A really frustrating loss that should have been a win!
In spite of a hostile crowd double the size of what we see in Shizuoka S-Pulse played really well but lost on small details and a lax defense missing injure Renato.
In the 18th minute Futami’s signature long line throw into the box was well controlled by the S-Pulse attack to provide Douglas with a great chance he made no mistake with. Less than 10 minutes later S-Pulse created the chance to kill the game but the final shot was really poor and agonizingly went wide.
And it was in the extra time that once again S-Pulse conceded a goal that should have been cleared by one of the five defenders who should have taken care of a low cross headed in by a sole Urawa forward.
In the 78th minute S-Pulse once again conceded a soft goal when the defense should have neatly kicked away a ball that instead fell to the feet of an Urawa player who had all the time in the world to shoot from middle range. S-Pulse created another great chance in the extra time but once again the finishing was poor and the ball flew well above the bar.
Really frustrating when S-Pulse had a great chance of an away win against a team which they hadn’t beaten for the last 8 games. For sure this trend will be reversed next year! S-Pulse is on the right path though and should prove it soon enough.
The fans should have reason to rejoice on Saturday 19th at home against Hiroshima Sanfrecce! Come all of you to support a team that deserves it for showing so much character against ill luck this year!
