REPORT

As predicted the trip to Kashima proved an arduous one to play against the present J1 leading team that had turned a 2-nil disadvantage into a 3-2 win within 11 minutes at IAI Stadium Nihondaira. To make matters worse, S-Pulse was without a few key players suffering from long injuries.

They had only one clear chance at the beginning of the game and after that it was defense, defense and defense again. At the 17th minute a direct pass found MF Leandro on a 1 to 1 situation against the goal keeper Rokutan who did not have a chance.

The second half saw the inclusion of Murata and Shimizu to somehow change the flow of the game. To no avail, and at the 87th minute Kashima delivered a disheartening coup de grace with Kashima stealing possession and clinically making the most of it with a goal by striker Kanazaki.

For all their efforts in defense, S-Pulse players seemed to be too overwhelmed by the elevated status of their opponents of the day and probably still remembered their disappointing result at home. But in many senses it is a better result that the horrible defeat at home last week end. Let’s hope it will nonetheless help our club to become more resilient in the future and acquire the necessary experience to achieve more favorable results more regularly.

We are all behind you and will support you next Sunday at home against another strong team, namely Urawa Red diamonds!
