REPORT

Frustration.

Frustration was the word of the day. It started early enough when the law of advantage was not allowed to a very dangerous S-Pulse action everybody was brought back to an insignificant free kick. It was followed almost immediately by Marinos’ sole goal of the day following a quick counter. Duke could have equalized with a point blank heading into an impossibly narrow gap. Crislan, who defended well, had an off day and missed too many real chances. The first half witnessed a complacent referee ignore some blatant fouls to change his mind in the second half and distribute yellow cards with abandon. S-Pulse players did well at keeping their heads cool and chasing the ball from an opponent who had come with a reinforced defensive tactic. Team Manager Jōnsson at the post-match press conference refused to be dragged into negativity and complaints. He actually gave notice of a lot of good and encouraging things. As ever Duke ran his heart out. Ishige’s comeback offered more variety. The team will have to be patient, but the day they beat that enduring home jinx things will change pretty quickly into a better future.

Next match, a B group Levain Cup game should give a chance to some players to prove their worth and thus, promises to be entertaining!
