A very impressive win!
And the more for it that it was pulled away from home against a team we had not beaten for ages in their lair.
The return of Hwang from injury made a big difference in the defense, which for once came up with a clean sheet, and the increasingly feared striking pair of Douglas and Kitagawa once again made the difference with a little help of the whole team.
The first half, despite the wide discrepancy in possession saw a balanced game with an equal number of chances which could have easily turned into a 2-2 first half time score.
On the other hand the second half under the rain saw a noticeably dominating S-pulse creating more chances In the 65th minute on a ball stolen by the defense Douglas was sent running on the left side and shoot from middle range. The opposing goal keeper could only palm the ball away to a lurking Kitagawa who headed it in. The whole had happened with only 4 players touching the ball. In the 81th minute Douglas once again punished the opposite defense running on the left of the box to earn a penalty kick he himself coolly executed.
On the whole, in spite of a lower possession, S-pulse had more shots at goal and on target although Rokutan was made to work on at least two occasions. Too many still went astray in midfield but the defense held solid. S-Pulse seems at last to have found a nearly ideal team structure and it should in the rest of the season.
Next game is the derby leg at home against Jubilo Iwata, a team the more dangerous that it is threatened with relegation. It promises a tense confrontation for the delight of the fans!
