Gritty win in adverse conditions!
A far away game under torrential rain in Kyushu is never an easy proposal to any club! Adding all injured players they had to compensate for and players playing out their usual positions, S-Pulse came up with a great performance which sees them reach the last four in the Emperor’s Cup for the first time in five years!
As usual they started the first half all buns blazing, and also though they missed an early chance, in the 14th minute Kawai dribbled his way through the opposite defense before serving a caviar of a pass to Dutra who made no mistake firing his first goal for his new club.
After that it became a typical attritional Cup game with S-Pulse holding fiercely to their slender lead with an all-out defense and quick counters, two of which almost paid off. Nishibe had another great game with at least two match-savings lunges. For once luck was on the orange club’s side when a penalty was turned down when the line touch intervened to signify there had been no physical contact when Takeuchi saved the day in spite of the opposite attacker almost succeeding with his cunning dive.
Now the last hurdle before the Grand Final will be played on November 21st in Kobe against Vissel Kobe, another trip away from home. But before that we will root for Shimizu S-Pulse who will face Jubilo Iwata for their 50th Derby on Saturday at 14:00 at home in Shimizu!
It promises a full house and a lot passion from Shimizu S-Pulse fans!
