REPORT
It was a close shave indeed in spite of S-Pulse dominating most of the time. On a night when big names such as Yokohama F Marinos and FC Tokyo lost to amateur teams, just another proof that such games can easily turn into lottery!
S-Pulse fielded an obviously offensive 3-4-3 formation against Fukuyama City who came with an ultra-defensive 4-5-1 setup, making it clear from the beginning that one team was ready to take all the risks while their opponents came with the mind of an old-fashioned Italian catenaccio.
Until the dying seconds of the match S-Pulse had 17 shots against 5 to goal and 11 corner kicks against 2., but they just could not find a way through while they had still to be vigilant when their opponents did prove dangerous on the few counters they could manage.
The game was won by Hara who was playing his first match after a long injury, when a shot at goal by Santana was repulsed once again by the opposite defense but it bounced in the path of the hero of the day who lashed out in a frenzy. We will gladly take the win and go as far as possible!
The Emperor’s Cup 3rd Round will be played on Wednesday July 7th, against Iwate Grulla Morioka (Iwate Prefecture) of the J3 League. But before that it is back to the J1 League after a long break!
The next game will be played on Wednesday 23rd in Sendai against Vegalta another team struggling in the lower zone of the League! Can we expect a good win? We will certainly need it!
