REPORT
A BIG WIN! This game played away against a fellow struggler after a long break could very well prove as the long-awaited real start after all the frustration endured during the first half of the season.
It proved a great game to watch, the kind of pulsating seesaw encounter that keeps everyone watching on their toes!
In the 12th minute a quick counter saw Santana send Carlinhos running on the left flank before the latter returned the ball to the same Santana whose shot was hurriedly parried by two defenders, but Yuito Suzuki was there to slot in the rebound for his first goal ever in the J1 League.
In the 18th minute a terrible blunder of a missed back pass almost gave a goal away. In the 20th minute an even worse defense’s blunder almost conceded the equalizer. In the ensuing corner kick, very poor marking finally allowed a soft goal. Sendai came close to taking the lead in the 40th minute but the last heading was wide.
In the first minute of the second half Yuito Suzuki missed a golden chance by failing to make proper contact with Santana’s perfect cross. In the 49th minute Yuito Suzuki missed another chance after he intercepted a bad pass by the opposing defense.
But in the 71st minute Disaro beat the offside trap with a fine heading when a corner kick was first punched away by the goalkeeper to Takeuchi who kicked it back inside the box to help him score his first goal in the J1 league.
But in the 82th minute luck turned against S-Pulse when they headed away a corner kick only for a Vegalta player to try a long range shot which was deflected on its way which left no chance to Gonda.
But immediately after S-Pulse showed its new spirit by attacking right away and Disaro succeeded with a long pass to Santana, who after beating two defenders sent a low shot past a helpless opposing keeper to finally win the game.
Now Shimizu S-Pulse will have to prove their newfound success was no fluke, again away from their base and again against a fellow struggler in the name of Yokohama FC! The fans are expecting no less!
