REPORT

A frustrating draw!

We did have to play without at least three mainstay injured players and that certainly hampered us no end.

We nevertheless managed to dominate most of the game, especially in a one-way traffic second half, with 16 shots against 4, but almost lost in the end.

The first half was spent being put asleep by our opponents to the point of our defense committing high school blunders in the 19th minute. Then in the 22nd minute we watched Yokohama play a free kick at will which could have us cost again.

In the 28th minute Santana could not convert Hara’s perfect cross. And then in the 45th minute we conceded a silly soft goal when no-one defended on a throw in, already thinking about the half-time break and not defending on the following cross.

In the 54th minute Santana once again could not convert Yuito Suzuki’s perfect floating free kick. In the 59th minute Yokohama somehow cleared a great S-Pulse’s move ending with a heading on its way into an empty goal. In the 61st minute a corner kick should have been converted. In the 74th minute a splendid cross somehow beat everyone defenders and S-Pulse forwards alike.

Finally, in the 80th minute Valdo ran from far aback to head in a corner kick which seemed to have lost its target to finally earned a deserved equalizer.

S-Pulse then piled on the attack for the remaining 10 minutes and should have scored a few minutes later when a great heading was stopped by the post and in extra time when Santana was sent through with only the opposing goalkeeper to beat who somehow palmed the ball away only for Takeuchi to miss converting the rebound.

The next match on Sunday at home against another struggling club in the name of Oita Trinita will almost certainly see some modifications in the defense, especially with the recruit of central back Hirabayashi from Hiroshima Sanfrecce. Let us hope our great fans will have reasons to rejoice!
