REPORT

A big win! A win that has opened a big gap between us and the danger zone!

A win that will at last allow us to prepare next season when the enormous potential of a completely changed team should be put to good use for the pleasure of our enduring fans!

But it was not very pretty to tell the truth. It was more won with guts than skills. Do not forget this was a live or die game for both teams and provided plenty of reasons to get nervous, especially considering some starting members were on forced absence!

In the 19th minute Nishizawa curled a corner from the left which was first deviated by Ibayashi before it landed to the feet of an opportunistic Santana who slotted it in inside the far post. But it needed a VAR review to validate it as it had been judged offside at first for no obvious reason.

Then it was an exchange of dangerous chances until the 52nd minute when an enormous blunder gave Fujimoto the opportunity to chase the opposing goal keeper’s weak ball possession and somehow guide it into promised land thanks to a great sliding tackle.

But in the 60th minute Shimizu S-Pulse showed another typical failure of theirs when not clearing a corner kick and poor positioning on the ensuing middle-range shot. This sucker goal was typical of the whole year’s failure to clear such balls before allowing our opponents all the time to shoot at a defense trying to parry with their backs turned.

The end of the game saw chances from both sides which went begging until the very last seconds of an entertaining if not pretty match. But a win is a win. And this particular success will be remembered as the savior of the season.

Now, S-Pulse can move forward to the remaining games of the year with a lighter heart and a chance to prove their real potential starting with the visit of Vissel Kobe to the IAI Stadium on Friday!
