REPORT

For the first time this year Shimizu S-Pulse have at last shown their true potential. Truth be told, the opposition was a bit weak, even by J2 League standards.

But S-Pulse never let down the pressure even after Mother Nature tried to interfere with thunder causing two long delays after the start of the second half.

A big turnover had been needed due to a very heavy schedule and even University student Sen Takagi (DF, Japan National University Selection) was given his maiden selection as a substitute.

It was Yamaguchi who produced the first chance at goal in the 12th minute when a free kick just outside the box had to be scrambled away.

But two minutes later S-Pulse obtained a similar chance and Kamiya’s free kick was met by a diving Ibayashi who headed his first goal of the season thanks to big Oh Se-Un attracting the opposite defense’s attention.

In the 19th minute the same Oh Se-Un cut a poor pass to immediately send Kitagawa inside the box who at last scored his first goal of the season. It just showed that even our attackers were willing to chase balls in a total football concept.

The later part of the first half was somewhat quiet but hostilities resumed with a new elan with the second half.

In the 56th minute another free kick outside Yamguchi’s box was almost headed in.

But then the game was interrupted for two long delays, what with thunder striking and even hail falling onto everyone, players, officials and attendance included who all had to run for safety in an unreal situation.

When the game finally re-started still under the rain and in the 66th minute Kamiya sent a low corner kick for Ibayashi to squeeze a sweet heading between the near post and the keeper.

But once again the natural elements forced another delay

After the game resumed once again it became a somewhat one-way traffic match.

In the 71nd minute, seconds after the re-start Gonda kicked a long ball afield that Yamaguchi never properly cleared under the mass pressure of S-Pulse attackers to finally reach Disaro meters away from goal who did not make any mistakes by shooting a low ball inside the far post.

In the 85th minute another long clearance by Gonda was first controlled by Santana in spite of being surrounded with defenders. The ball was finally relayed to Carlinhos on the left flank who ran till the left edge of the box before sending the perfect short cross to Santana who fired an unstoppable heading in.

But even so, S-Pulse did not stop their attacking.

Then only two minutes later a quick counter found Nakayama who ran into the box before firing past the opposite goal keeper.

Next is a difficult game for the Ybc Levain Cup away to Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday. The starting team will surely be changed again and selected players know they will have to produce to get a chance to be chosen in future games!
