REPORT

Back to the second spot!

As any Derby, it was a scrappy, passionate game where even luck played a role.

In front of the biggest home crowd of the day both teams missed their chances and it could have gone any way in all honesty.

It was started with some domination by S-Pulse and in the 19th minute a good move by Ronaldo, Inui and Carlinhos offered the ball to Santana inside the box but the Jubilo keeper somehow parried his tap with his legs. The ball rebounded into S-Pulse possession but Carlnhos’ last shot went wide off the far post.

But in the 27th minute Jubilo wasted their best chance of the day when a counter sent Germaine through a running back S-Pulse defense but trying a difficult angle his weak shot rolled away past the far-left post.

And then in the 40h minute S-Pulse benefitted from some luck when Santan’s pass to Carlinhos was blocked outside the box for the ball to reach Inui also outside the box. In almost a manner identical to the goal scored against Machida, Inui powered a long range shot which was deflected into goal. This goal was his ninth for the season, making him the third highest scorer for his team.

The second half started with Jubilo dominating and in the 48th minute Furukawa could have done better on an excellent pass from Dudu relaying Germaine but his shot rolled past the far post.

The game started to become rough especially with Jubilo being yellow-carded twice.

In the 74th minute S-Pulse were lucky to clear a corner kick that curved in directly to Gonda who could not cleanly clear it but his massed defenders somehow kicked the ball away.

In the 77th minute Jubilo could not properly clear a free kick from long range and the ensuing long-range attempt by Inui was barely palmed away by the opposite goal keeper after two deflections on the way.

S-Pulse had some more defensive work to do until the very end of 6 minutes of extra time but preserved this very important win which will probably define the whole season.

S-Pulse are still left with 4 more games they will probably have to win all to hold to the second automatic promotion spot starting with an away game to Iwaki after two weeks rest. Iwaki might be lowly classed team but they can pull of a surprise any time.

Therefore S-pulse will have to take that next game very seriously!
